For the 60th anniversary of the Black is Beautiful Movement, I wanted to present a modern take on what those three words mean to me. Black is Beautiful is unapologetic, versatile, inclusive, revolutionary, and euphoric. It exists in and outside the binary. It is queer and straight. It is dark and light, and it comes in many sizes. It is accepting of all natural forms of the Black being, truly unifying. Some may say it’s a utopia, but in actuality, it’s a reality; and it’s as true as you and I.
